Casino Smart Cards 7 Casino Smart Cards
Does anyone really count cards in Las Vegas?

I just saw the movie "21" and wondered whether this sort of thing really happens. Are there really people who are so smart you can beat a casino and its distributors? Thank you!

Yes, there are people who count cards. I I myself and several other members of this board to do as well. It's not as difficult as many people think they get away with it, but definitely not as profitable as it was for the people that the film is based. No security people in search of "teams" of accountants who could get a lot of money if they were not detected, but a typical minor player in the $ 5 table can eek out a profit without being disturbed too often. IMO, everyone who plays blackjack more than a couple of times a year should make an effort to learn to count cards. There are a couple of systems out there that are very simple, and a player can easily clear the house advantage or create a small advantage, without having to learn complicated and counting strategy changes a professional card counter would use. And FYI, the term "blacklist" is a term often misunderstood in the context of the casinos in Las Vegas. The "real" black list "is a list CHEATS casino knowledge who have been convicted of crimes against the casinos, and usually multiple times. I forget the exact number, but there is only something like 20 people on the list, and none of them came there to count cards. It is true that professional players are known to not be allowed to play blackjack or ask them to stop just about any casino in Las Vegas but they are not, by definition, a "blacklist".
